Fight for a Free Kurdistan and Democratic Syria!
Dear comrades,
In light of the rapid developments in Syria, we hereby share the positions and work of our party in Syria. We call for international solidarity and revolutionary cooperation in defense of the Rojava revolution and the freedom of the peoples. With solidary greetings,
MLKP Turkey/Kurdistan
International BureauFight for a Free Kurdistan and Democratic Syria!
Our party views the Middle East question as one of democratization and the struggle for political freedom. National differences, sectarian divisions, and political Islam-based agendas have historically produced not solutions, but deadlock, hostility, and mutual enmity.
After the First Imperialist Partition War, the Syrian state was established on a foundation of cooperation with the British and was later placed under French mandate. As a nation-state, it was constructed on the principles of a single nation, single language, and single flag, a model preserved by the Ba’ath regime after it came to power in 1963. Colonial domination was never lifted from the Kurdish region of Rojava, which remained under the control of the Ba’ath regime. The regime’s policies of forced demographic change, massacres, and denial continued in areas where Kurds lived.
In 2011, under the conditions of popular uprisings across the Middle East, the people of Rojava established their self-administration based on a revolutionary-democratic people’s governance. A woman-liberating system based on the equality and freedom of all peoples has withstood all attacks for 14 years. Over time, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria was established, based on an alliance between Kurdish, Arab, Assyrian, Yazidi, Turkmen, and Armenian peoples. The Rojava-North Syria revolution represents a solution to the Middle East issue on the basis of this understanding and program.
MLKP/Kurdistan is committed to defending the achievements of the Rojava-North Syria revolution. We consider it our duty to struggle for the establishment of a revolutionary-democratic and woman-liberating system in Syria. We call upon the workers, women, youth, and all our peoples from all faiths to elevate the revolutionary and democratic struggle.
We will continue to stand in defense of Rojava and the Autonomous-Democratic Syria against all attacks, particularly the colonial occupation of the Turkish state. Our people must strengthen their organization and self-defense everywhere.
We salute the honorable resistance put forth by the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). We have full confidence in the fighters resisting in every position, in every city.
The Assad regime has collapsed. However, the danger is still great. A jihadist takeover is on the agenda. The barbaric Taliban-led Afghan regime should never be forgotten. The fact that the US, UK, Israel, and the Turkish state are trying to legitimize HTS does not change the reality of HTS.
We call upon our people in Bakur, Başur, Rojhilat, and the diaspora to fight against colonialism and political Islamist fascism.
We call upon all the socialist, progressive, revolutionary, democratic, feminist, and ecological movements of the world to rally around the Rojava revolution and to elevate the struggle for the recognition of Rojava’s status in every area they are active.
As MLKP/Kurdistan, we will continue to fight with our blood and lives. Our revolution in Rojava, for which thousands of martyrs and veterans have sacrificed, will live on! We give our word to the people of Afrin, who have suffered great massacres, that our lands under occupation will be liberated.
Long live Free Kurdistan!
The only path in Syria is revolutionary democratic people’s power!
Long live the Democratic Federation of the Middle East!
Shoulder to shoulder with the Rojava Revolution and the revolutionary-democratic forces of the Syrian Arab people, let’s take to the streets, squares, and trenches of war!
Imperialism and the regional centers of counterrevolution have accelerated the overthrow of the regime of Bashar al-Assad and the takeover by political Islamist organizations, largely consisting of fascists, in a temporary and conflict-ridden overlapping alliance. The USA, the “Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS” and Russia, which kept their air forces and advanced technologies for various types of ground weapons under wraps, have provided the necessary support to the coalition known as HTS, which is the enemy of the peoples, women, and masses which do not belong to political Islam. HTS was able to reach Damascus without obstacles. Turkey has provided the most active support, particularly military assistance. The indirect support of Israel through special methods of warfare is indisputable.
Assad and his state forces, who show no trace of resistance or struggle and present one of the most miserable, despicable examples of capitulation, have created nothing more than a cloak with their demagogy, such as the “patriotism” rhetoric, to hide their own chauvinistic, reactionary, bourgeois, and colonial interests. Today, it is clear to the broad masses that these have nothing to do with the revolutionary, democratic, and anti-imperialist interests of the Syrian Arab people. The new regime is primarily a coalition of HTS, the USA, the UK, and Turkey. This coalition represents various interests of Israel. However, their future is uncertain. They will prepare the ground for new chaos, division, civil war, and imperialist power struggles in Syria and the region.
The Lebanese Hezbollah and the reactionary, political Islamist, colonial regime of Iran will face new challenges arising from the internal and regional politics of the HTS-led state in Syria.
The fascist, colonialist, capitalist Turkish state and the collaborating, chauvinist-fascist interest network called SNA (Syrian National Army) want to seize every opportunity to destroy the revolution in Rojava. All imperialist powers supporting HTS and thus the SNA are directly or indirectly involved in this threat to varying degrees. The people of Rojava and the democratic and revolutionary forces of the Syrian Arab people have no choice but to resist and fight. It would be suicide to be deceived by the lies, illusions, and demagogues of the USA or any other imperialist power and the traps of imperialist bourgeois diplomacy. A glance at Afrin and Serêkaniyê is enough to recognize this.
The situation that Assad has found himself in is also instructive enough.
The democratic rights and revolutionary achievements of the Syrian Arab people, especially the Alawite Arabs, the Assyrian, Chaldean, and Armenian Christian communities, the Yazidis, and all women of Syria and Rojava, are also in great danger. Anyone who wants to see the specific future in Syria and Rojava under the leadership of HTS, which is drenched in blood, massacres, torture, rape, and human trafficking in the ranks of ISIS and shows no fundamental change in mentality, as well as under the rapacious, marauding, and collaborating SNA with the Turkish Republic, which represents the most treacherous part of the Arab people, should take a look at the practice of Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
The democratic, revolutionary, and socialist forces of Kurdistan, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Tunisia, and the Arab states of the region, as well as the progressive, antifascist, revolutionary, socialist workers, women, youth, intellectuals, artists, and scientists of Europe, the USA, and the whole world, are called upon to unite with the Rojava Revolution and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the progressive, antifascist, revolutionary, and communist forces in Syria against the coalition of HTS, the USA, the UK, and Turkey, and against the fascist, colonialist henchmen of the Turkish bourgeois state, who form a racist, fascist, political Islamist gang under the name of SNA. It is necessary to provide all support and exert pressure on the reactionary fascist governments.
Let’s take to the streets, occupy squares, universities, and workers’ districts. Let us demonstrate in front of imperialist state institutions and international imperialist organizations. Let us defend the Rojava Revolution and the revolutionary democratic achievements of the Syrian Arab people by all means and in every form. Let us defend the revolutionary and democratic demands of the women of the people of Rojava and Syria. Let’s exhaust all possibilities to reach the trenches of war. We must, with all our strength, build the revolutionary and socialist alternative in the region against the new reactionary, fascist, imperialist, and colonialist domination.
Let us confront the imperialists and their collaborators, who are creating new disasters in the Middle East, imposing new chains of slavery on the peoples, spreading despair and frustration, creating the most favorable conditions for exploitation and plunder, and trying to create regimes in line with the interests of Israel, with the resistance and struggle of the working class, women, youth, the poor, and the working people.
The democratic, revolutionary, and socialist forces of Kurdistan, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Tunisia, and the Arab states of the region, as well as the progressive, antifascist, revolutionary, and socialist workers, women, youth, intellectuals, artists, and scientists of Europe, the USA, and the whole world, are called upon to unite with the Rojava Revolution and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the progressive, antifascist, revolutionary, and communist forces in Syria against the coalition of HTS, the USA, the UK, and Turkey, and against the fascist, colonialist henchmen of the Turkish bourgeois state, who form a racist, fascist, political Islamist gang under the name of the SNA.
Let us strengthen the united struggle of the peoples.
Let us fight for freedom and socialism.
Communists in North and East Syria Prepare to Defend the Revolution
After the occupation attack by HTŞ (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) on Aleppo on November 27, the Turkish colonialist state, along with its militias, targeted Şehba, Til Rifat, and later Minbic and Kobanê with the same goal. The Autonomous Administration called for mobilization. The communists of Rojava responded to this call and quickly began mobilization efforts to defend Northern and Eastern Syria, as well as all of Syria.
Cemil Sîdwo, representative of the Communist Revolutionary Movement (TKŞ), spoke about the work done so far:
“In this recent period, the most urgent request from us was the defense of cities, neighborhoods, and the people. The goal of the former Syrian regime was to use Daesh (ISIS) as a tool to attack some of our cities. For this reason, the Autonomous Administration declared a state of ’emergency.’ We also participated in this and have been on duty to defend the neighborhoods and cities. We are on guard day and night.
We are also living in this revolution. The revolution is ours; we defend it. Military-wise, some of our groups participated in the defense. If our comrades defended Şengal (Sinjar), that experience today guides us here on a broader scale. We participated in the defense and put that experience into practice.”
He added that the Communist Women’s Movement (JKŞ) and the Communist Youth Movement (CKŞ) have conducted military and political training and participated in the defense of neighborhoods. Politically, Syria has entered a new phase, and the communists are an active part of it. Sîdwo pointed out some dangers:
“In this phase, we need to act very cautiously. Why? Because the enemy wants to play a destructive role here. They aim to create chaos, cause division, and launch psychological warfare against the people. We didn’t allow this step by the enemy. Especially the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria, particularly those in Rojava, have united, shook hands, and stood firm against the policies being applied here. Why? Because a very dirty policy is being pursued. We can call it a politics of life or death.
The people are holding on to their land with all available means and have thwarted the enemy’s plans. They wanted to create conflict between the Kurdish and Arab peoples. But we did not allow the enemy to implement this policy. With the right approach and unity, we prevented what they intended to do. We supported those who fled from Afrin and Şehba to Rojava. Whatever we had, we collected and brought it to the refugees from cities like Qamişlo (Qamishli), Hesekê (Hasakah), Kobanê (Ayn al-Arab), and Til Temir.”
Ekin İsyan, spokesperson for the CKŞ, spoke about their ongoing work:
“We continue our work in the spirit of mobilization. The goal of the Turkish occupation state is to sow fear among the people and simultaneously seize our achievements in the ensuing chaos. As children of the Rojava Revolution, we have spent 12-13 years in this revolution. We have fought for this revolution and paid a price for it.
The fascist Turkish state does not want us to gain our rights. Therefore, it is launching its attacks against us, the people of Rojava. This is a mobilization phase, and our actions are focused on self-defense.
The Rojava revolution plays a very important role. We have sacrificed many martyrs. Therefore, we need to act accordingly. Especially young people and young women have the responsibility to take the lead in self-defense, to defend the values, cities, and honor of Rojava.
The misogynistic policies of political Islamist militias want to sacrifice us for themselves and their jihadist cause. They want to enslave women again. They want to place us under the system represented by Daesh’s black flag. Turkey’s collaboration with Daesh is evident. But Rojava is our value. We stand by our values, which we have fought for and earned over the years. These attacks do not mean they can make us retreat from our will. As the children of Rojava, as young men and women living in the revolutionary lands, our greatest task is to defend the achievements of this revolution.
The Turkish state should know that no one can turn us away from our goal. We are ready, just as we worked for this revolution in the past, we will work with even more determination in the future.
Members of CKŞ continue their mobilization in cities such as Hesekê, Qamişlo, and Kobanê. Especially during the state of emergency declared by the Autonomous Administration, we focus on training our youth in self-defense and preparing them for practical self-defense. We provide shooting training and conduct street patrols and neighborhood watches.
I want to call on the youth in Rojava and all around the world: Defend Rojava, because Rojava is our greatest achievement. Rojava is the foundation of the revolution in the Middle East.
